Contents
Per 100 mL Fe (III) hydroxide polymaltose complex equiv to elemental Fe 1 g
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 10 mL daily. Childn 5 mL daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Haemochromatosis, haemosiderosis, thalassemia, sideroblastic anaemia, chronic haemolysis, lead-induced anaemia. Patients receiving repeated blood transfusions.
Special Precautions
Irritant & corrosive effects on the mucosa, necrosis & perforation; symptoms of epigastric pain, diarrhoea, vomiting & haematemesis; circulatory failure; metabolic acidosis, convulsions & coma in large doses of Fe salts.
Adverse Reactions
GI discomfort, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, epigastric pain, black stools.
Drug Interactions
Decreased absorption w/ antacids or when taken w/ tea. May reduce effects of penicillamine.
